Dr. Christina Hanhardt Wins Best LGBT Studies in 2014 Lambda Literary Awards!

Congratulations go out to the Department of American Studies’ Dr. Christina Hanhardt for taking home the 2014 Lambda Literary Award (Lammys) in the category of Best LGBT Studies for her debut title Safe Space: Gay Neighborhood History and the Politics of Violence.  Dr. Hanhardt’s book was nominated among nine other distinguished works in its category.

The Lambda Literary Foundation is the premier organization promoting and supporting LGBT writing, and the Lammys are considered the most prestigious in this area.  This year’s was the 26th annual Lambda Literary Awards ceremony presented in conjunction with BookExpo America, and was held on June 2, 2014 at the Great Hall at Cooper Union in New York City.  The Lammys recognize the best works each year over the full spectrum of LGBT books including poetry, children’s books, graphic novels, general and genre fiction, and several categories of nonfiction.  More information on this year’s Lammys can be found at the Lambda Literary Foundation site here.
